You always wanted to ride the mythic 21 hairpins of Alpe d’Huez and now you can. In this holiday take on the 21 hairpins three times! (…if your legs stay with you). The holiday features Tour de France cols, spectacular scenery and intense climbing challenges. This is a cycling holiday you’ve dreamed about.

Whether you are riding the hairpins of Alpe d’Huez, climbing to the top of Le Tour legend Galibier or descending like a pro into Bourg-d'Oisans, your cycling will be tested like you were a pro rider. Alpe D’Huez
The legendaryTour de France col is waiting for you to take on the 21 hairpins and reach the top. On this tour you can climb it three times (but you don't have to!). This will be part of longer rides that show you a lot of the French Alps region.

SportActive operates a professional organisation and you will be supported throughout your adventure. Our head cycling coach, Martin, will lead the peloton as you ascend and descend the mountains and valleys. All logistics will be arranged so all you have to do is embrace the French Alps!

Your Cycling Alpine Adventure Itinerary
Featuring 6 Alpine climbs, and the spectacular beauty of the French Alps, your Alpine Cycling Adventure is focused around the legendary col, Alpe d’Huez. Used in the Tour de France and featuring 21 switchbacks, this mountain is a test in its own right. When combined with other climbs you’ll feel it in your legs, but love the sense of achievement at the end of each day.
Profile
Alpe d’Huez is a hard 13.8 kms of climb featuring 21 hairpin bends. The gradients are challenging averaging at 8.1% but reaching 13% in some places. You will need the right mindset and pacing to reach the top. We'll support you with every mile you ride.

Itinerary
Thursday: Arrival in Lyon St Exupéry airport and transfer to Hotel
Arrival hotel +- 19:00
Friday: Time to hit the cols! 103km Ride
Drop down Alpe d’Huez and ride col du Glandon (first climb of Marmotte Alps), continue up to col de la Croix de Fer (2064 m elevation). 51.5 km. There is a mountain restaurant near the top of col du Glandon for a lunch break. Descend to Bourg d’Oisans (this it is not only descending as there are inclines too!) and climb Alpe d’Huez. Total 103 km.
Saturday: Tour de France Cols. Total 153 kms!
Descend Alpe d’Huez and climb col du Lautaret (altitude 2058 m). At the summit, turn left and climb to the summit of col du Galibier (altitude 2642 m). From Galibier’s summit drop down to Valoire. Snack break. Climb back up to the summit of Galibier and drop down to Lautaret and back to Bourg d’Oisans. Climb Alpe d’Huez. As this is quite a long ride, (and there will be more climbs on Sunday), should you not wish to climb Alpe d’Huez, you can get a lift with our minibus. Total 152 km.
Sunday : More climbing challenge! Total 76 or 134 kms
Descend Alpe d’Huez and start climbing col du Lautaret up to le lac du Chambon (1040 m altitude,15 km from Bourg d’Oisans), turn right and climb to Alpe de Mont-de-Lans and Alpe de Venosc (26 km from Bourg d’Oisans). On the way back, just before Bourg d’Oisans, we can add a 29 km ride over a narrow mountain road towards St Christophe en Oisans and finishing in a place called La Bérarde, a dead end in the middle of the mountains. Here, the mountain climbers start their passion. Back to Bourg d’Oisans and climb Alpe d’Huez. Total 76 km (or 134 km)
Monday: Travel home. See you next time
