'La Route Des Grandes Alpes'
A large part of this ride is engulfed by 'La Route Des Grandes Alpes'. It is an untainted alpine brilliance to say the least. With historic monuments and awe inspiring roads, this will create a long lasting experience that will be with you. While you push down on the pedals and challenge the often sharp turns, for brief moments you will be amazed you're riding in these wonderful locations.
The first ride over "Le col des Aravis", will take you to Albertville, the town of the 1992 winter Olympics. It is a 96km ride so prepare to get into that cycling rhythm.
Another breathtaking pass is the Col du Télégraphe (1,570 m). This offers a splendid view of the Vanoise Massif, and then descends to the town of Valloire at the foot of the Col du Galbier (2,677 m), site of the famous Tour de France stage.
The biggest challenge of this route however is the journey from Navache to Barcelonnette (120km). This pass will see you witness massive mountains begging to be climbed. The town of Barcelonnette is approximately 1,135 metres above sea level so even the easiest climbs can be a challenge. However, you may run into the phantoms of Tour de France winners of the fifties and if not, you can get your picture taken in front of their headstones situated in a totally mineral area of red stones.
