Tramore to Kildare 161 km

The stage had some open wide roads with cat 1 and 2 climbs.
A group of 10 riders attacked at 12 km from the start and quickly established a lead of 3 min. At 34 km came the first climb, cat 2, which split the peloton.
At 93 km the second climb (cat 1) split the peloton again and about 50 riders going clear.
The leading group of 10 riders including the green jersey now had a lead of 4 min on the yellow jersey.
The An Post team who held the yellow jersey started to chase the leading break to bridge the 4 min gap to protect the yellow jersey ; working hard they eventually closed to 34 sec with 15 km to the finish.
From the leading group of 10 riders Martin Irvine (Giant Asia Kenda Cycling) attacked and held a 20 sec gap to take a solo stage victory.
