 The An Post Meath Heritage Cycle Tour of Sunday 25th July, 2010 departing in Trim was a huge success : about 1200 cyclists in the 100 & 160 km tour, more than 300 in the 40 km and numerous participants is the shorter routes of 10 & 20 km.
The historical town of Trim had literally been taken over by the cyclists and the atmosphere of the day was similar to a Tour de France stage…finishing "sur les Champs Elysées à Paris" more or less at the same time as the 160 km Meath Heritage Cycle Tour riders crossed the arrival line. Instead of the Tour de France caravane a commercial village was set up in the meadow next to the castle offering everything from drinks to delicious cooked noodle meals, organic venison burghers, local bakeries, jams, finest coffees…. natural jewelries and much more.
Anita and Philipp Cassidy from Cycleways store in Dublin presented a full range of cycling equipments from bikes to cycling kits and a selection of bike accessories. All type of information was available, for the beginner cyclist to the most experienced.
All members of Bohermeen CC, the local cycling club, were mobilized and massively present to make the event a success with the tremendous help from the local Garda and other local bodies. All cyclists were congratulated at arrival, received a medal, a goody bag and a tea-shirt before restored with Tea, coffee, sandwiches and absolutely delicious chocolate cake in the Trim Castle Hotel.

The five "2010 An Post Cycle Series" were officially launched on 21/02/2010, by Sean Kelly - 2010's ambassador of the An Post Cycle Series - and Eamon Ryan TD, Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources. The 5 cycles this year are the following :

A joint initiative with the Irish Sports Council, the Series encourages communities around the country to get back on their bikes. With routes catering for everyone from the serious amateur to the enthusiastic beginner, the Series has proven to be a great way for family, friends and work colleagues to spend a day of fun together while the serious rider follows a more challenging route. Family routes will be approximately 10k while short, middle and long distance routes will be approximately 60k, 100k and 160k.
Each county's event is organised by the Irish Sports Council's Local Sports Partnerships in conjunction with their city, county and cycling club partners. This year's Cycle Series ambassador is former world numberone cyclist Seán Kelly, who will be taking part in the Sligo, Clare andWaterford Tours. "I'm delighted to be an ambassador for this year's Series - there's never been a better time to get cycling. The events are unique in that they offer something to every type of cyclist, from beginners and families to the more serious and dedicated enthusiast."
"Like Minister Ryan I can't stress enough how important is to keep active and healthy and there is no better way in doing so than going for a cycle. Last year's event inspired thousands of people to get back in the saddle and this year we want even more people to come and enjoy the events." Kelly added.
An Post also sponsors the Sean Kelly professional cycling team, and the Green Jersey in the annual Tour of Ireland.
