Martin Birney - Cycling Coach
Martin, a founder of the SportActive Company, has a vast experience in cycling and extensive knowledge of Mallorca, gained with over 20 years of training on the island. He has competed in Europe and Australia in international road and track, achieving 4th in the World Master's Championship. He is also a qualified Cycling Coach.

Trudy Brown - Cycling Coach
Trudy was a former silver medallist at the National road race championship & N.I Time Trial Champion. She has been Overall Irish Triathlon champion three times, twice European age group champion & has won 55  triathlons overall. Trudy has represented Ireland at elite level in cycling and Triathlon.

day01 Sunday 9.30 am : Introduction, Aims & Objectives. Bike set up

2 pm : 3 hours bike ride. Aerobic Endurance. Training 65% of heart rate.

day02 Monday 10 am : Bike ride 3 h - Anaerobic Endurance

Anaerobic Endurance - 5 sets of 1 min at high exercise level with 3-5min recovery will be performed on flat or climb less than 6% . 4 pm : seminar 45 min - Nutrition

day03 Tuesday 10 am : Bike ride 3 h - high cadence, low resistance

Bike ride : medium Intensity, high cadence, low resistance - To enable cyclists to cope with the wide variations that occur in many phases of cycling. 4 pm : seminar 45 min - Pedaling, Core strength

day04 Wednesday rest day - seminar in the afternoon

4 pm : Bike maintenance seminar - 45 min

day05 Thursday 10 am : Bike ride 3 h - low cadence, high resistance

Bike ride : medium intensity, low cadence, high resistance. Training to increase muscular strength and power. 4 pm seminar : Energy management and tactics - 45 min

day06 Friday 10 am : Bike ride 3 h - Aerobic power

Aerobic power - To train the central cardio -cirulatory and peripheral neuromuscular system . 4 pm : debrief - questions & answers

day07 Saturday 10 am : Bike ride- flat

Bike ride : duration depending on flight schedules

This is a WOMEN-ONLY cycling training camp; no males will be part of the women cycling group apart from the coaches. The size of the group usually varies between 8 and 12.

Activity Level

A medium - high activity level takes place during this cycling training camp. You are required to have a medium fitness level. The training camp is to help improve your self-confidence in a female only environment and is aimed at improving your fitness and bike skills.

Cycling Holiday style

This training camp is aimed for women who have a passion for cycling. Our goal is to provide women with an opportunity to train together and experience the fun of cycling but in a challenging environment.

What are your main worries when you consider a training camp?

  • That you won’t be fit or experienced enough ?
  • You think they are for seasoned cyclists only ?
  • Worried you won't be able to keep up, or even worse - hold the group up?
  • Do not be worried, this group is designed to build your confidence and improve your fitness in a female only environment.

Our Aim

That's why at Sportactive we focus on teaching you new skills, and honing those already learned. If you can gain a broad base of skills in a focused environment, you will unquestionably become a better rider.  This will allow you to go away with new skills to put into practice for the rest of your cycling years.

The main mistake people make is to assume a training camp is about volume ; that it's about getting the miles in. At Sportactive we focus on quality, not on quantity.

Think about how many miles you have done on your bike. Do you feel you rode them efficiently?  Or is there room for improvement? Is your bike position right? Can you ride efficiently in a group? How are your descending and climbing skills? At Sportactive the coaches are able to work at a level and style that matches the level of the group. This will have a positive effect on you as an individual and the group as a whole.

To support this learning environment further we have found that having a Sportactive Women's Exclusive training camp, allows for better interaction and cohesion within the group. The coaches are able to work at a level and style that matches the majority of the group.

Relaxation after the active day

Wind down after your active day on the bike with a swim in one of the indoor or outdoor pools followed by a Sports Massage. José, our professional in-house masseur will take care of your leg, shoulder and back muscles with an invigorating and relaxing massage.

SportActive Bike Garage based at the Hotel Viva Tropic, it is exclusive for SportActive Members.  Featuring bike mechanic and shop sale of bike accessories, energy drinks & bars, full range of SportActive cycling kit, selection of cycling clothing.

Bike Hire: we recommend you hire your bike with SportActive in Mallorca. We have a selection of top quality bikes, alloy frame carbon forks and full carbon bikes for hire, and for beginner cyclists, bikes with straight handle bars, as opposed to the drop down bars of the racing bikes.

This not only saves you bringing your own bike, but our bike mechanic will ensure your bike is serviced and in tip-top condition before you explore this exciting island.

Accommodation details

You will be staying at the four star rated Hotel Viva Tropic & Spa, located in Puerto Alcùdia on Mallorca's north coast. This is one of the most pittoresque parts on the Mediterranean island, yet right at the heart of entertainment and shopping, as well as 200m from a beautiful golden beach. If that was not enough, the hotel affords good views of the magnificent Tramuntana Mountains.

The hotel offers a choice of rooms, several swimming pools and restaurants, Turkish bath, Jacuzzi, and spa. After a hard day's ride, it has everything you need to relax before getting back on the saddle.

Weather & seasonality

The climate in Mallorca is typically Mediterranean, with warm average temperatures and seasonal rainfalls. In February the daytime temperatures usually reach a high of 16-19 °C. These are ideal temperatures for early season cycling training. In March and April the temperatures steadily rise reaching 22 to 24 °C and 25°C in May.  The weather in Mallorca in October is a solid 24-26 °C during the day; nights can get down to 10°C. November in Mallorca still offers pleasant temperatures of 18 °C during the day and 6°C at night. July and August are very hot month with temperatures over 30°C.
