On February 18th 2012 Simon Hutchinson from Bailieborough in County Cavan will be competing in the first ever global cycling race. This race requires him to cycle a distance of 18,000 miles unaided in a time no greater than 160 days. To date he is the only Irish competitor amongst a field of international cyclists to have registered to take part in this event. By completing this race Simon is endeavouring to raise the profile of his chosen charity Brainwave Ireland and to raise much needed funds for research of epilepsy. The event had good turnout of riders. The route would take us into the Wicklow Mountains. With the sun shining we headed for a secular tour over Sally Gap. The Indian summer weather gave the Harvest Tour cyclists a fantastic fun day as they left the start from Arnolds Hotel in Dunfanaghy and headed for the Fanad peninsula. With up to sixty cyclists taking part, the organisers had 3 routes available : 30 km, 70 km and 100 km. The routes where all signed and all major junctions marshalled with motorbike assistance, lead cars and the broom wagon bringing up the rear. The town of Milford was the food stop and also where the cyclist had the choice between two routes, 70 km or 100 km, for the cycle back tocycling holidays with Sean Kelly and SportActive Dunfanaghy to the finish at 
Arnolds Hotel, the base for the event. Refreshments awaited the finishers with a selection of sandwiches, soup and tea. A well organised fun day cycle.
